HAC testifies before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance

This morning, the Hotel Association of Canada was among top business leaders invited to testify before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance.

The Government will need to provide financial support for the tourism and hospitality sectors until a recovery is possible. HAC brought forward two critical asks for consideration in the Federal Budget:

  1. Extend the Wage Subsidy until the end of 2021 for the hardest hit sectors.
  2. Extend and expand the CERS program to help cover fixed costs until the end of the 2021.

In a scenario where Canadians are vaccinated by June, HAC encouraged the Government to pivot quickly to allow for a safe reopening and invest in stimulating our recovery to maximize the summer tourism season.

Canada’s hotel sector needs a clear signal in the Budget that the Government acknowledges our unique challenges and will stand behind us until recovery is possible.
